Join farmers, legislators, economists, conservation leaders, bankers, community organizations, students, and citizens for the White River NRCD's Vermont Public Banking Congress—a two-day gathering to explore how public banking can support resilient farms, thriving communities, and a stronger Vermont economy.
Featuring Don Morgan, President of the Bank of North Dakota—the nation's only remaining state-owned bank—participants will learn how public banking has helped finance agriculture, disaster recovery, housing, infrastructure, higher education, and local economic development for more than a century.
The Congress begins on Tuesday, August 4, with a guided farm resiliency tour through the Upper Valley, followed by a free farmer-focused dinner and discussion focused on the financing challenges facing Vermont agriculture and lessons from North Dakota's agricultural lending and disaster recovery programs.
On Wednesday, August 5, participants will gather at Vermont Law and Graduate School for a full day of presentations, panel discussions, and collaborative working sessions. Together, attendees will explore Vermont's history with public banking, examine practical examples from around the country, and discuss how public finance could help address some of the state's most pressing challenges—including farm viability, housing, disaster resilience, student debt, municipal infrastructure, and community investment. Lunch and light breakfast will be provided.
The Congress will conclude with an evening Public Banking Symposium at Fable Farm, offering additional opportunities for conversation, networking, and collaboration. Purchase dinner and drinks, stay for music and discussion.
