The Future is Food Forests: Agroforestry is Changing NH’s Agricultural Landscape

Imagine this: New Hampshire’s forests teeming with life—and food! Shade-loving crops, pick-your-own fruits, nuts, berries and mushrooms, along with livestock grazing beneath the trees.

Sound dreamy? It’s already happening! Join our November Network Café to explore the exciting potential of agroforestry with Laurie Mooney and Heidi Asbjornsen of the Adaptive Agroforestry Principles and Teaching (ADAPT) program, a research and education partnership between the University of New Hampshire, Dartmouth College, and Yale University.

Heidi will introduce three agroforestry approaches suited to New England—food forests, forest farming, and silvopasture—and share what they're learning from research and partnerships with local farms. Laurie will focus more specifically on the food forest system. We'll explore how agroforestry can diversify farm operations, build climate resilience, and create new opportunities for New Hampshire farmers and landowners. Plus, hear practical insights on how to get started!
