Network Cafe - Federal Legislation, Local Impact: What’s Next for SNAP in NH

On July 4, the One, Big, Beautiful Bill Act was signed into law, setting into motion a number of cuts and changes to the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) for every state across the U.S. How will this legislation affect SNAP beneficiaries, nutrition education, and the food system economy across the Granite State? Find out during our October Network Café.

NH Hunger Solutions and UNH Extension’s Health & Wellness team will join us to break down the recent federal legislation and share how both of their organizations are working to minimize the negative impacts. NH Hunger Solutions will share how everyone can get involved in their advocacy and coalition building work to lessen the burden those receiving SNAP benefits will feel and soften the impact changes to benefits and program administration will have on New Hampshire’s economy and state budget at large. UNH Extension’s Health & Wellness team will provide insights on the cuts to the SNAP-ED program and how they plan to mitigate the effect on nutrition education for children and families across the Granite State.

Following, the NHFA team will facilitate a discussion about how the SNAP changes and cuts will trickle down to affect our agricultural producers and food system community and ask participants to share about strategies other organizations are taking to ensure everyone has access to local food and our food system community continues to thrive.
