Custom Combiner for 2026-2027 Winter Grains
Custom Combiner for 2026-2027 Winter Grains
Here and There Grain Project operates a harvesting service for small grains, winter wheat, rye, and barley, and is looking for one more grower in southern New Hampshire with 1 to 4 acres to be planted with a cover crop this Fall for harvest in July or August of 2027.
This service is primarily geared towards organic farms which already rotate cover crops through several acres of field crops and pastures and who are interested in marketing a local flour with some assistance on the equipment side of things. This service optionally includes stone-milling of whole grain flours, co-packing, and white-labeling. Seed bed prep, seeding, and bailing straw is not included, however we will work with interested growers to get them up to speed on what other small, organic grain growers are doing and learning along the way.
Our aim is to establish a multi-year collaboration. We can offer to structure an agreement as a fee-for-service custom hire or work out a crop split proportional to inputs. Preference will be given to growers interested in growing winter rye for the culinary market and who can see this fitting into their farm as a year-after-year collaboration with potential to increase total cover crops in their rotation to 8-10 acres.
Our harvesting route begins in eastern Massachusetts and travels South to North. To reduce the chance of overlapping harvest-ready fields, we segment by variety maturity dates, hence our preference that the northernmost grower on our route grow rye. We can assist with sourcing seeds as well.
