In the essay The Gift of Good Land, Wendell Berry shows us that impacting our communities must come from the acts of its people, and to be able to act means you must have the skill to do so. Learning is the root of change. The 2023 Winter Conference is getting back to the basics as we center on actionable skill development that builds the knowledge of our community to create the change we hope for.

2023 Keynote

Welcome Mark and Kristin Kimball of Essex Farm, NY
Mark and Kristin Kimball run Essex Farm on 1000 acres in northern New York, working alongside a dozen farmers to create a year-round food supply for their region. Driven by desires to nurture both community and agricultural diversity, they will share stories about how creating a new farm on abandoned farmland gave rise to dozens of other farms in the region. Their keynote address will aim to explore the important work of developing skills in new farmers, supporting the growth of farms in a region, and developing a community that values and supports its local food system. Kristin is the author of The Dirty Life and Good Husbandry. Join us in welcoming their combined 50 years of farm experience to New Hampshire as the 2023 Winter Conference keynote speakers. View the workshop page for a full description of their keynote address.
