Organic Gardening Series is back! April 16 through May 11

Are you tending a garden for the first time, or have you been growing food for many years? The Northeast Organic Farming Association of New Hampshire Organic Gardening Workshop Series offers instruction for new and experienced home growers seeking to build skills to feed themselves, their families and develop self-sufficiency. Knowledgeable speakers from across the Northeast share their expertise with informative workshops throughout the spring. Learn about how to improve a home growing system or start something new.

The 2024 gardening series is a mix of four online workshops on Tuesday evenings from 4/16-5/7 and one in person workshop on Saturday, 5/11. NOFA members receive a 25% discount for all gardening series workshops.

Update on NHDAMF Organic Certification & Resources for Organic Farmers

The New Hampshire Department of Agriculture, Markets, and Food (NHDAMF) has announced on February 27, 2024 that they are discontinuing their organic certification program effective June 30, 2024. The NHDAMF press release regarding this matter is available here.

NOFA-NH is committed to helping organic farmers through this process and is offering technical assistance to any farmers needing help. We have included an ACA Transfer Fact Sheet with specific details on the transfer process, deadlines and required forms on our Organic Certification webpage.

Winter Transition to Organic Partnership Program (TOPP) Applications are Open!

Now is the time to GO ORGANIC! The Transition to Organic Partnership Program (TOPP) is launching another opportunity to help farmers transition their farm to organic production, add acreage or add a new type of production to existing organic farms.
TOPP offers one-to-one mentorship with experienced organic farmers along with partner organizations, community building, technical assistance and workforce development programming to support your transition to organic.

CT River Watershed Best Management Practices Survey & Project

Windham County Natural Resources Conservation District and project partners throughout VT and NH are working to identify best management practices (BMPs) for reducing nitrogen runoff into the CT River Watershed. NOFA-NH is a member of the CT River Watershed Planning Project steering committee and producer outreach subcommittee.

Producers who farm in the CT River Watershed are invited to participate in a 10-15 minute survey on which BMP’s they practice or would be most willing to implement. Surveys are 100% confidential and will not be used for reporting or regulatory purposes. Producer stipends are available—receive a $50 gift card for participating!

Annual Meeting Recording

The 2024 annual meeting was held virtually on January 31st. Operations Director, Nikki Kolb, and key board members gave a recap of 2023, financial breakdown from the previous fiscal year, a call to action, policy updates and more. View the recording to get an overview of 2023 and look forward to what is ahead in 2024.

How much does your food really cost? This question has come up frequently as we have seen prices fluctuating in recent years. The NOFA-NH Policy & Education Committee ran a series exploring the complicated subject of the cost of goods. Follow along and learn how market pricing typically obscures the wider impacts of food production and the health value of the resulting food.

NOFA's 2023 Farm Bill Principles Platform

The farm bill is an omnibus bill (i.e. a package of legislation combined into one bill) passed roughly once every five years. This bill includes the bulk of the federal legislation that relates to agriculture, food, and the food system. As such, it has a massive impact on how food is grown, sold, distributed, and bought in this country.

The current farm bill expires in September 2023, and a new farm bill is expected to be passed later this year. Learn more about NOFAs platform for the upcoming bill and how you can get involved by visiting our Farm Bill webpage.
