Nibbling the Landscape of the Granite State: Wild Edibles & Foraging Workshop
D'Acres Organic Farm & Homestead, 218 Streeter Woods Road, Dorchester, NH
Presenter: Russ Cohen, Expert Forager & Author of "Wild Plants I Have Known...and Eaten"
Sunday, July 8, 10:00 am - 4:00 pm
New Hampshire is home to over 100 species of edicble wild plants, many of which are more nutritious and/or flavorful than their cultivated counterparts. Join expert forager, Russ Cohen, on a ramble through D'Acres to learn at least two dozen species of edible wild plants. Pending favorable weather conditions, a number of edible wild mushroom species may be encountered as well. Keys to the identification of each species will be provided, along with information on edible portions, seasons of availability and preparation methods, and guidelines for safe and environmentally responsible foraging.  Rain or Shine - please wear weather appropriate clothing, footwear, bug spray and sunscreen.

Cost: $25.00 for the workshop, plus $10.00 (optional) for organic, local lunch provided by D'Acres. Please be sure to specify if you have any dietary needs. NOFA-NH and D'Acres membership discounts apply.

Herbal Picnic

Join the NOFA-NH Herbal Network for this free, fun potluck picnic! Herbalist Mimi Alberu of Langford Homestead Herbs will host this year's event at the historic Langford Homestead in Candia. She'll lead a wild and invasive medicinal herb walk after lunch. Please bring a potluck picnic dish to share (ideally featuring local, organic and herbal ingredients: please write the ingredients on an index card). Rain or shine. Please wear appropriate clothing/footware for a walk on uneven terrain. This event is FREE and open to anyone who is interested in herbs! (The location is a working  farm and the event is geared toward adults.)

Wild Mushroom Foray & Medicinal Mushroom Tea Party

At Wichland Woods, South Street, Nelson, NH
Presenter: David Wichland, The Mushroom Guy
Cost: $45. Pre-registration required
In this experiential workshop we be study mushroom identification and the mushroom life cycle with David Wichland of Wichland Woods. The class will go on a moderate-to-difficult wild mushroom off-trail walk and a mycological landscaping tour. We will look at our relationship with mushrooms throughout history and examine their many potential uses in our lives. After a mushroom show and tell, we'll make mushroom tea and have a tasting. Potluck lunch and mushroom feast. Rain or shine, please dress accordingly.
Directions: Click here for basic googlemap location. After you turn onto South Road, follow the mushroom signs and take the immediate right onto a dirt road/driveway to the parking area. There is no street address or # on South Road.
Materials List: Students are encouraged to wear outdoor gear and footware for hiking off-trail (no flip flops). Please also bring something to share for the potluck lunch, a basket for mushroom harvesting, a sharp knife, and any mushroom ID guides you may have.

The Art of Goat Milk Soap Making

Saturday, November 10, 1-3 pm
At Stonewall Farm, 242 Chesterfield Road, Keene, NH
Presenter: Alisa Andrews, Herbalist & Soapmaker
Cost: $35 (plus $5 materials fee to be paid to teacher at time of class)
Join Alisa Andrews for an afternoon of traditional soap making. Using natural ingredients and pure essential oils, Alisa will show you how to make a batch of beautiful, aromatic, and skin-soothing goat milk soap. (The same technique can also be used with cow's milk.) Some topics to be discussed include: basic aromatherapy; ways to customize your own batches of soap with ingredients such as dried herbs, grains, and natural coloring; creative and inexpensive sources for soap molds; useful soap-making books; and where to get supplies. Each student will go home with a soap sample to cut and age themselves, along with detailed instructions. This workshop will utilize lye and is not suitable for young children.
