Organic Vegetable Production and Marketing / Farm Tour

Blue Ox Farm

Enfield, NH

Steve Fulton of Blue Ox Farm has been raising 10-acres of diversified vegetables, all certified organic, since 2002.  He grows the full range of vegetables for his own CSA as well as some specialties.  An acre is devoted to lettuce, a quarter acre each for corn (grown from transplants), and tomatoes.  Other main crops include winter squash, beets, and greens.  He also grows edamame.

During the tour, Fulton will discuss farming organically, including soil fertility (achieved with chicken manure, Pro-Gro, and soil amendments,) using soil blocks to raise his seedlings, and how he handles his biggest challenge, farming in wet areas. Fulton is trained as a mechanical engineer, does off-farm consulting, and is currently farming full-time. He markets his produce through his own CSA, a local farmers’ market, restaurants, the Hanover and Lebanon Co-ops and the cooperative CSA in Concord.
